In 2018, 7 different wines already aged 2 years in neutral barrels were blended by taste and returned to the barrels for 3 additional years. In 2018 we made by taste the following blending: 37% Merlot 24% Cabernet Sauvignon 12% Zinfandel 11% Petit Verdot 9% Syrah 5% Sangiovese 2% Cabernet Franc. Other wine county vineyard may have been affected by smoke from wild fires in both 2017 and 2018 but Dry Creek was spared. The harvest is always early for Old Vine Zinfandel because it is dry farmed. It was late harvest grape that may have been damaged by wild fire smoke. The 2018 Buchignani harvest came off without a hitch and in perfect condition. Another great year for the Dry Creek Valley and its world renown Zinfandel.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cbr\u003e\u003cinput class=\"accordion-select\" name=\"select\" type=\"radio\"\u003e\n\u003cdiv class=\"accordion-title\"\u003eFermentation\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv class=\"accordion-content\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eDry Creek is one of the best place in the world to grow Zinfandel. This is because the summer days are very hot, up to 100°F, but the nights are very cool, 52°F. The heat drive the production of the carbohydrates to high levels, giving the fruit and then the wine an extremely robust character and body. The cold nights cause the carbos to retract, giving the wine a nuanced variation in strength, character and flavor that are multi-dimensional. Carefully crafted in a 23,000 square foot cave in the heart of Sonoma Valley, this single varietal Zinfandel was vinted to express the true terroir of the Dry Creek Valley. With a longstanding commitment to low intervention winemaking, this Old Vine Zinfandel was bottled in August 2021 after 3 years aged in old American barrel.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cinput class=\"accordion-select\" name=\"select\" type=\"radio\"\u003e\n\u003cdiv class=\"accordion-title\"\u003eTasting Notes\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv class=\"accordion-content\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e. This Zinfandel Is 17.6% alcohol and has 10g\/lt non added sugar. The nose is fruity with flavors of blackberries, ripe cherries, chocolate, tobacco, licorice and oak, with nuances of allspice and cedar. A rich explosion of fruit expands in the middle of the palate. The high alcohol drives the flavor up without a hint of heat. Everything about this wine is intense. The finish is exceptionally long and lingering.
